Get to know Cate

  • It all begins with an idea. A dream.

For me it was the opportunity to live and study at sea as part of Ocean Classroom. I was hooked. I was learning about other cultures. Seeing old things through new eyes and new things that I had to make sense of.

This experience changed the way I thought of eduction and learning. It didn’t have to be inside 4 walls. It wasn’t limited to traditional subjects or lessons. It’s what I still find so interested about education, learning and online course design today.

There are so many ways to engage with the world, inspire change and create learning opportunities. We don’t have to do it the same.

  • Going through my Masters of Teaching, I learned and saw a lot about education that was inspiring…and a lot that didn’t connect with my values and passions.

Teachers go into education because they love it. You want to share your knowledge and expertise because you have a passion for it. And you need to…because this process takes time.

I taught in Kosovo, China, South Africa, and the US. Each location allowed me to refine my practices and highlight what both what was important to me and worked for me and my students. Teaching is incredibly personal. Despite all the work to standardize teaching, what works for one, may or may not work for another teacher.

Just as we see with entrepreneurs and business owners, just because one person made it big, doesn’t necessarily mean the same strategies will work for you.

Course design is not different. It has to be personal to you, your values and characteristics.

Your expertise is valuable.

Make your content memorable & actionable.
